Dr. Marie-Ève Bégin Galarneau is a bilingual (French and English) psychologist licensed by the College of Psychologists of Ontario. She provides psychological services at Vista Psychologists and is a professor at the University of Ottawa, with over six years of experience in teaching at the university level. Her teaching has included courses such as Introduction to Applied Psychology, Psychopathology, Psychology of Aging, Clinical Psychology, and Psychosocial Aspects of Health.
In her clinical practice, she works with adolescents, adults, and seniors experiencing a wide variety of concerns, challenges, and difficulties. She treats individuals struggling with mood and anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, chronic insomnia, relationship issues, low self-esteem, grief, and life transitions. She also works closely with people facing acute and chronic health conditions, as well as those who have experienced traumatic events (e.g., life-threatening situations, abuse, and childhood neglect), supporting them in coping with both past experiences and present symptoms. She also provides clinical supervision to junior psychologists and clinicians in training.
Dr. Bégin Galarneau has a broad range of clinical experience, providing bilingual assessment and treatment in hospital and private practice settings, including the Centre for Interpersonal Relationships, the Montfort Hospital (Family Medicine Unit), the Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre (Respiratory Rehabilitation), the Ottawa Institute of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre (inpatient and outpatient mood program). In these settings, she has worked within several psychological approaches, including Emotion-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Interpersonal Therapy. She has also completed training in
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which focuses on accepting difficult
emotions in order to live a fuller and more meaningful life aligned with one’s values.
Driven by a passion for life and the human mind, she continues to be deeply moved by the resilience and strengths of the people she meets. Her therapeutic approach emphasizes authenticity, collaboration, and compassion as foundations for meaningful change. In this sense, Dr. Bégin Galarneau believes that therapy is most effective when clients feel safe and supported to explore their difficulties and become the experts of their own mental health. She works actively with clients to help them identify and reach personal goals that enhance their quality of life. Dr. Bégin Galarneau’s declared competencies include Clinical, Counselling, and Health Psychology. She completed her B.A. with Honours in Psychology and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Ottawa. Her doctoral thesis focused on cognition in Parkinson’s disease, where she assessed memory, executive functioning, personality, and depressive symptoms.
