Denis Vaillancourt is in the final stages of completing his doctoral training in clinical psychology at the University of Saskatchewan. By the end of August 2025, he will have completed his residency at the University of Ottawa’s Centre for Psychological Services and Research (CPSR) and the Ottawa Institute of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (OICBT). Denis also holds a master’s degree in Applied (clinical) Psychology from Laurentian University and has received clinical training in a range of settings, including private practices, community mental health centres, and hospitals.
At VISTA, Denis will be offering psychotherapy and psychodiagnostic assessments under the supervision of Dr. Gordon Josephson and Dr. Marie-Ève Bégin Galarneau. He has a particular interest in assessing and treating mood, anxiety, and trauma-related disorders.
Denis supports clients with challenges related to mood (such as depression and anger), anxiety (including generalized, social, and phobias), and trauma (including life-threatening events, abuse, childhood trauma or neglect). He also works with concerns related to sexual and gender identity, relationships, self-esteem, life transitions, and grief. Denis holds a special interest in serving the queer community and is committed to fostering an inclusive, affirming therapeutic space.
In individual therapy, Denis uses an integrated approach grounded in cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), while also drawing on experiential modalities such as emotion-focused and psychodynamic therapies. He believes that therapy is most effective when grounded in safety, trust, and authenticity—all of which create a space for meaningful self-exploration and lasting personal growth.
Denis also offers couples therapy, helping partners face challenges related to communication, infidelity, physical intimacy/sexuality, and general feelings of disconnection. He predominantly uses the approach known as Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT).
