Dr. Marie-Ève Bégin Galarneau is a bilingual (French and English) psychologist licensed by the College of Psychologists of Ontario. She provides psychological services at Vista Psychologists and is also a full-time professor at the University of Ottawa. Her classes include Introduction to Applied Psychology, Psychopathology, Psychology of Aging, Clinical Psychology, and Psychosocial Aspects of Health.
In her clinical practice, she works with adolescents, adults, and seniors experiencing a wide variety of concerns, challenges, and difficulties. She treats people struggling with mood and anxiety disorders, chronic insomnia, relationship issues, low self-esteem, grief, and life transitions. She also works closely with people who have health issues (acute and chronic illness) as well as with people who have experienced traumatic events (e.g. life-threatening situations, abuse, and neglect in childhood) to help them better cope with their past experiences and present symptoms.
Dr. Bégin Galarneau has a broad range of clinical experiences, providing bilingual assessment and treatment in hospital and private practice settings, including the Centre For Interpersonal Relationships, the Montfort Hospital (Family Medicine Unit), the Bruyère Continuing Care (neuropsychological assessment), the Ottawa Hospital Rehab Centre (Respiratory Rehabilitation), the Ottawa Institute of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and the Royal Ottawa hospital (inpatient and outpatient mood program). In those settings, she has worked within many psychological approaches namely Emotion-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic and Interpersonal Therapy. Dr. Bégin Galarneau also recently completed training in Acceptance Commitment Therapy, which focuses on accepting difficult emotions to live a fuller and more meaningful life attuned with one's values.
Driven by a passion for life and the human mind, she continues to be touched by the resilience and the strengths of the people she meets. Her therapeutic approach puts authenticity, collaboration, and compassion at the centre of positive change. In that sense, Dr. Bégin Galarneau believes that therapy is most effective when clients feel safe and supported to explore their difficulties and become the experts of their own mental health. She works actively with clients to help them identify and reach the personal goals that will benefit their quality of life.
Dr. Bégin Galarneau’s declared competencies consist of Clinical, Counselling, and Health Psychology. She completed her B.A. with Honours in Psychology and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Ottawa. She wrote her Ph.D. thesis on cognition in Parkinson's disease in which she assessed patients' memory, executive functioning, personality, and depressive symptoms.
